Good news from Sheffield

They must be doing something right in the Sheffield area – maybe it’s the ease of access from the motorways – maybe it’s the quality parking or the excellent food – or maybe it’s just a great place to meet friends and see superb models – the Sheffield Meccano Guild meetings are going from strength to strength! The October meeting once again filled up quickly with every table covered with a wide variety of models or with goods for sale. Once again the regular auction offered great value for anyone wanting to stock up on more common recent parts as well as a number of more historic items. My 1999 “Eagle

Transporter” gained a 4th place in the members’ popular vote, and first place went to Greg Worwood’s unusual model of Brunel’s bright idea for an underground railway system using vacuum tubes! With all its holes Meccano doesn’t seem like an obvious candidate for a modelling medium, but the additional help of a hoover and a length of plastic drainpipe proved otherwise!
